What Marvel Movies Will Be Released In 2023?
Phase 5 of the MCU began in February 2023. The MCU’s 2023 films are all sequels that give fans another chance to see some of the franchise’s most popular characters. Originally, Marvel Studios planned to release four films in 2023, but Mahershala Ali’s Blade reboot was delayed until 2024 due to various production issues.
Sony is also continuing two different sections of its Spider-Man film plans, with a new live-action film starring a Spider-Man villain and the highly anticipated sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse both releasing in 2023.
Before James Gunn’s temporary dismissal, Guardians Vol. 3 was supposed to be the first, if not one of the first, films in Phase 4. With the deck reshuffled and James Gunn directing The Suicide Squad for DC prior to Vol. 3, the next Guardians film will now be released in Phase 5.
Those in attendance at Marvel’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con were treated to the first trailer for the conclusion of the Guardians trilogy. In addition to the reveal of Maria Bakalova’s Cosmo the dog, we see Gamora running through the Ravagers and Peter Quill/Star-Lord approaching her. Gamora reminds Quill that the Gamora he once loved is no longer alive. A big boy Groot appears, as does a baby Rocket Raccoon.
At the panel, Chukwudi Iwuji surprised the panel by appearing in full costume as the High Evolutionary.
The next upcoming Marvel film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, will be released in 2023 by Sony. On June 2, 2023, the film will be released exclusively in theaters.Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin Thompson direct Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and Phil Lord and Chris Miller return to write the script with Dave Callaham. Shameik Moore returns as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Spider-Gwen, and Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker in the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel. Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac), Spider-Woman (Issa Rae), and Spider-Punk (Daniel Kaluuya) are also included.
Because of the bankruptcy, the cartoon was created.
With the success of Fox Kids’ Spider-Man, Fox and Marvel wanted to keep the rights to the show in order to continue airing it. Fox wanted Marvel to create a new Spider-Man cartoon, which would be produced by Saban, the company that brought the Power Rangers to American audiences.
There was only one problem: Marvel went bankrupt in 1996. Following its restructuring, Marvel sold the film rights to Spider-Man to Sony in 1999, allowing the company to use the comic book storylines as inspiration for the film and its tie-in cartoon series. This meant Saban would have to create original stories for the new cartoon.
During the Loki Season 1 finale’s mid-credits scene, a close-up of some of the TVA’s paperwork is revealed, which is stamped with the words “Loki will return for Season 2.” Loki will return in Summer 2023, according to the announcement made at San Diego Comic-Con 2022.
The first Loki season 2 footage was released as part of the 2023 Disney+ trailer, but fans should temper their expectations based on what is revealed. There is nothing much shown other than confirmation that Tom Hiddleston is indeed back as Loki, with brief clips from a number of Disney+ programs on the way.
Kraven the Hunter’s origins remain largely unknown. Early in the film’s development, it was reported that it was based on Kraven’s Last Hunt, a famous comic storyline in which Kraven hunts down Spider-Man. One of the film’s writers even stated that Kraven will meet Spider-Man in the film. There has been no confirmation that Spider-Man will appear in Kraven the Hunter, let alone whether Tom Holland or someone else will play the web-slinger. Taylor-Johnson has also committed to multiple films, so this could be the beginning of a promising future for the character in Sony’s Spider-Man universe.
Captain Marvel 2, now titled The Marvels, is currently in production, with Nia DaCosta directing. Teyonah Parris will play an adult Monica Rambeau alongside Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers, and the film will also feature Ms. Marvel, who will be introduced in the Ms. Marvel Disney+ series, played by Iman Vellani.
The sequel was originally scheduled to be released in July 2023, but has now been pushed back to November 10 (to fill the void left by the Blade reboot).
X-Men ’97, also known as X-Men ’97: The Animated Series, is an animated superhero television series that premiered on the Fox Kids Network in the United States on October 31, 1992.
