All Premier League soccer matches will be broadcast live in China on China Central Television (CCTV) during the 2023–2024 season.
CCTV has reached an agreement that spans the entire cycle from 2022/23 to 2024/25.
Due to political tensions between China and the UK, CCTV and the Premier League clashed when the broadcaster downgraded its coverage of the competition in July 2020. Since then, there has been tension between the Premier League and its Chinese broadcast partners.
Due to unpaid fees, the competition ended its UK£523 million (US$639 million) partnership with PP Sports two years early in September 2020. A UK High Court judge later awarded the competition UK£157 million (US$192 million) in January 2022.
The Premier League and streaming service IQiyi Sports signed a deal in July 2021, making them the top division’s sole digital broadcast partner in China through the end of the 2024–25 season. The Premier League’s planned displays of support for Ukraine, according to the BBC’s report on March 4th, would prevent IQiyi Sports from airing those matchdays’ Premier League matches. Russia has close political ties with China.
Through a four-year sublicensing agreement with the Baidu-owned streaming platform, China Mobile’s streaming subsidiary Migu will broadcast live games alongside IQiyi Sports and CCTV.
According to the agreement, IMG’s digital archive platform, IMGReplay.com, will host all upcoming Premier League match coverage and interviews over the course of three seasons, totaling 1,140 matches.
